One only needs to follow the simple steps provided below.
Before proceeding to trying out how to massage your partner’s back, you have to be sure that the atmosphere is set. The environment must be relaxing and conducive to be able to set the mood and make the client or your partner feel more comfortable. The room must be kept clean. You can play soothing songs like instrumentals and add a bit of candles to set the ambiance. Furthermore, you, as the one giving the massage, must be comfortable yourself.
Below is a massage routine called effleurage which uses strokes that are long and sweeping. Effleurage is meant to relax muscles in order to make every part of the body connected to one another.
Procedure:
1. Put the client or your partner in a position wherein he or she lies on her stomach. The couch or the bed would be a good alternative if there is no available massage table. Make sure that the mattress is firm and the person whom you will massage will feel comfortable.
2. Warm up the massage oil using your hands by rubbing them. Using both hands, apply the oil on the person’s back using firm strokes from the back to the neck. This motion will improve blood circulation.
3. Press your hands heels on the back, then in a circling motion, move it upward until you reach the shoulders.
4. Using your fingertips, press against the muscles opposite from where you’re standing. Slowly move from the back going to the shoulders. Repeat this on the other side.
5. With the use of deliberate and firm pressure, allow your thumbs to travel on both sides of the spine, going to the shoulders, returning to the back.
6. With the use of your forearms, apply firm pressure on the back, rubbing your arm close to the person’s head, moving to the shoulder blades.
7. You may notice that when you are aiming at the knots and bunches found on the person’s back, the person may tell you that there is pain. By continuously pressing your thumb gently on the painful area, the pain will lessen.
Repeat procedures 2-4. After the massage, let the person rest.
